Paint defects

What causes paint defects? Maybe your customer had an accident, or maybe the car was exposed to aggressive atmospheric conditions. It is also possible, that mistakes were made during the coating process – maybe the coat thickness was not right or drying times were too short. Once you paint , several defects are observed. Most of the common defects are listed below.

Formation of bubbles like shapes on the painted surface is known as blistering.

The defects which are commonly found in paint work are as follow. The primary cause of this defect is water vapor. When water vapor trapped under the paint layer, it creates bubbles under the film of paint. Blistering Defect of Paint 2. In the Glasurit manual on advice on paint defects , we have compiled the most common paint defects , along with definitions and causes, as well as tips for avoiding (HOW TO AVOID) and repairing (REPAIR) the defects.

Chemical decontamination sometimes removes these defects with ease. Here are some of the defects that may occur, their causes and how to remedy them. A defect in which the appearance of a paint finish is marred by small particles of extraneous material, typically dust, grit, broken paint skin and fragments of bristle from brushes.

A paint defect is in many cases due to a number of causes. In some cases, several defects may occur simultaneously and hinder the determination of the causes and redemption works. To achieve good painting work, applicators and site supervisors should understand the causes and preventive measures of common defects that occur at different stages of works. Paint manufacturers have monitored product on a south Florida test fence for more than years. Samples are placed on the fence at a 45-degree angle facing the strong tropical sun and environmental exposure.

It is usually due to lack of care and attention to cleanliness in preparing surfaces, materials and equipment, although very occasionally the paint itself may be at fault. Paint can become brittle over time and susceptible to cracks and tears. Severe damage can be made invisible and brought back to original condition. Sagging is usually apparent on local areas of a vertical or curved surface.

Incorrect air pressure, unsuitable reducer, unsuitable spraying technique, unsuitable spray viscosity. Prevention Use mixing stick or DIN viscosity cup to obtain spray viscosity. Maintain spray guns regularly. Paint defects Cause Faulty spray gun (nozzle). Hold spray gun parallel to object while spraying (observe correct distance).

The Solution– Remove any unstable paint films and allow the wall to dry thoroughly. Wrong amount ofhardener can cause adhesion loss too or even too hightemperature during forced drying. To prevent adhesion loss sand and clean surface very goo followall instructions on how to prepare and use polyester filler and howto dry it.

Once the mistake is done, sand the area very goo refill and refinish.

There are other defects that resemble dirt such as paint drops, gun spits, and overspray. These and substrate defects , solvent pops, and gassing have been mistaken for dirt many times and have led to much effort spent working on the wrong problem. Poor paint performance is attributable to a number of factors but often in reality end users apportion the blame to the product itself without looking at other factors. Regardless of the method of application, dirt is the most generic and the most common defect found in paint finishes.

It can enter the finishing process at any stage prior to, during, or after painting. For example, the target substrate can be contaminated prior to paint. Appearance of a fisheye.
