Spectacle blind dimensions

What is a spectacle blind? Standard dimensions of spectacle blinds or blinds as per ASME B16. All dimensions are in inches. A spectacle blind is often made from two metal discs that are attached to each other by a small section of steel.


D = Hole size (where required) should be the same as the flange bolt hole.

Spectacle Blinds should be made from a plate or forging specification,. It is different than a valve in that the blind is a permanent or long term isolation device. The inside diameter of the open end is equal to the pipe ID to facilitate flow from the line. The spectacle blinds , spades and spacers are flame cut from plate material and are machined with a smooth or stock finish gasket contact surface. RTJ male and female is also possible.

One of the discs is a solid plate, and the other is a ring, whose inside diameter is equal to that of a flange. There are three types of spectacle blinds: Flat face spectacle blind (FF): similar to a flat face flange, the surface of the disc is flat.


Raised face spectacle blind (RF): likewise raised face flanges, there is an additional thickness on. Ring joint face spectacle blind (RTJ): a groove is. Use this blind to safely isolate a section of your line during maintenance or when equpiment needs shut down.

The other metal disc has a circular hole to match the pipe internal diameter, as shown in the figure. The function of this disc is to allow the flow through the pipe during normal operation. This standard specifies dimensions of spectacle blinds.


Facings available are Raised Face, Female Ring Joint and Male ring joint.

Separating one part of a line from another requires a spectacle blind , able to switch from closed to open and back again. A vented blind can drain a line or allow access to internal pressure. A single provides closure, while a spacer ring keeps a line open. A spectical blind is a combination of both a ring and single spacer.


To make switching from one to the other, especially in the larger sizes, a bolt hole or slot in the spacer bar is provided for rotation. Surface finish to be specified. Spectacle and line blind flanges are similar to a blind flange but different because they fit between two flanges. Steel Mart India is assuring timely delivery of the ANSI B16.
