Screw compressor working principle

Working principle : In a screw compressor one of the shaft is driving shaft and the other is driven shaft. The driving shaft is connected to the driven shaft via timing gears which help to match speeds of both the shafts. The two shafts are enclosed in an air tight casing.

How does a screw air compressor work? Working Principle The oil injected rotary screw compressor is a positive displacement type compressor. A given quantity of air or gas is trapped in a compression chamber and the space that it occupies is mechanically reduce causing a corresponding rise in pressure prior to discharge. To avoid various faults occurs during working on an air compressor , you have to know the working principle of the screw compressor.

We will start with the basic screw compressor working principle. Fig 1: Rotary Screw Compressor in Sectional View Usually, the male rotor connects to the motor , acting as the driving rotor, while the female rotor is driven. An when properly size they are one of the more efficient forms of compressed air delivery around.

The screw compressor element. During this process, oil is injected in the element. The oil is there to cool the air, as the air gets very hot during compression. In a dry-running rotary-screw compressor , timing gears ensure that the male and female rotors maintain precise alignment.

In an oil-flooded rotary-screw compressor , lubricating oil bridges the space between the rotors, both providing a hydraulic seal and transferring mechanical energy between the driving and driven rotor. The basic principle of a screw compressor is as the male and female rotors are rotating in opposite direction they draw air in between them. As the air progresses along the rotors the air is compressed as the volume space between the rotors decreases, hence creating compressed air that is displace to the outlet. Ambient air is taken in by the screw compressors and is compressed in the screw element.

In this screw element, oil is injected during the compression. It’s also there for lubrication and sealing off the clearances between the screws. A large amount of air discharged from the air compressor flows through the compressed air inlet pipe and enters the running tower in the two towers through the valve, where the moisture is absorbed by the adsorbent and dried. This draws air in-between them.

As air progresses along the rotors, the decrease of space between the rotors and their housing leads to air compression. The air is pushed by the rotors that are rotating in opposite direction and compression is done when it gets trapped in clearance between the two rotors. The compressed air is then displaced to the outlet.

Then it pushed towards pressure side. Ebook, Handbook, Textbook, User Guide PDF files on the internet quickly and easily. A piston compressor normally works better when it can take a break – ita intermittent duty cycle. A screw air compressor has a male and female rotors, the male rotor drives the female rotor.

Any scratch or rubbing in screws will start is small rate then increase with continuous running , rubbing means friction between screw and static casing leading to metallic deposits in oil , so periodic oil samples are is required from compressor to inspect oil to check contaminates and ashes. In three stage air compressor , fresh air from the atmosphere enters in a first stage (low pressure) cylinder.

The working principle of multistage air compressor is same as double stage air compressor. Air enters through a suction filter. If you take a closer look at the variable speed control and centrifugal compressors , air-cooled chillers may make a better choice. How Do Air Cooled Chillers Work ?
