How to apply water based paint? Use it to increase adhesion, enhance the paint sheen, retain a uniform appearance and block stains. Oil-based paints are made with either alkyd (synthetic) or linseed (natural) oils. Alkyd paint is more common because it is less expensive and tougher. It is advisable to store water based paints in dry environments of between 5-30°C, protecting them from sharp drops or spikes in temperature change.


All products have a minimum temperature for use, water based paints are usually around 8-10°C as a minimum, with a maximum air humidity of R. Fifty years ago, nearly all architectural paint was oil-based. Today, however, water-based paint has developed in quality and performance to the point of replacing oil-based paints as the industry standard—and it’s gentler on the environment.

Emulsion paints are water-based paints in which the paint material is dispersed in a liquid that consists mainly of water. For suitable purposes this has advantages in fast drying, low toxicity, low cost, easier application, and easier cleaning of equipment, among other factors. Using water-based or acrylic paint when painting over oil-based paint is likely to cause peeling or chipping because those formulas don’t bond well with the naturally glossy surface of oil-based.


If the instructions say to clean up with soap and water , then you know it is water based. This also tells you that it is water based. That also means it will dry faster.


Although oil- based paints are super popular for woodwork, doors, floors and furniture, water - based paints have a ton of advantages.

Plus, if you spill the paint , it can be cleaned up with water. Is better for the environment. Much easier to clean up by using soap and water.


Latex is far more forgiving, primarily for cleanup, making it a great choice for the weekend warrior. Many painters are finding latex is more widely available than oil. Advance Interior behaves like an alky or oil-base paint but is a water-based paint.
