What is pre action system? Pre-action fire sprinkler systems employ the basic concept of a dry pipe system in that water is not normally contained within the pipes. The difference, however, is that water is held from piping by an electrically operated valve, known as a pre-action valve.
Pre-Action Fire Sprinkler System. The system’s discharge is a two-step process: First, the innovative detection system identifies smoke or heat, which activates a pre-action valve that allows water to flow into piping and effectively creates a wet pipe sprinkler system.
Secon individual sprinkler heads release to let water flow onto the fire. A pre-action sprinkler system is basically a hybrid between different sprinkler systems , particularly wet and dry-pipe systems. But, predominantly, it uses the concept of a dry-pipe sprinkler system in that water is not readily available in the piping system until triggered by smoke or heat sensors.
Pre-action sprinklers offer fire protection for areas containing high value equipment or contents and spaces which are highly sensitive to the effects of accidental sprinkler water discharge. In pre-action systems , the primary control valve for pre-action is activated by a fire detection device, and not by exclusive operation of a sprinkler head in the system piping. Unlike a dry pipe system , the pre-action valve governs the flow of water.
Ideal for Water Sensitive Environments. Pre-action sprinkler systems are specialized for use in locations where accidental activation could damage high value physical assets as in archival vaults, museums, libraries or data centers.
Similar to a dry-pipe system , a pre-action sprinkler system uses piping charged with air or nitrogen under pressure. A wet-pipe system contains water under pressure at all times and utilized closed. With the proper engineering and maintenance, it is a reliable way to eliminate fire hazards and keep both your business and employees safe. Now, pre - action sprinkler systems are similar to the dry-pipe systems just explained. That is, in this model, the piping is not filled with water, but is instead filled with air (often times nitrogen) under pressure.
However, in pre - action systems the air pressure is normally less than in the dry-piping model. Preaction fire sprinkler systems are best used in locations where accidental activation resulting in water damage could be costly (ie: data centers). Next, choose a releasing trim and releasing device(s) depending on your application. Area smoke detection is a provision of the pre - action systems. The most common applications are in areas where it is important to control accidental water discharge due to a damaged sprinkler or damaged sprinkler piping.
The DV-5A offers improvements on the DV-valve w. The clean agent fire suppression system acts as the first line of defense protecting your people, assets, and business continuity. Pre - action sprinklers are often used in conjunction with clean agent fire suppression systems. When it comes to pre - action sprinkler systems, there are two types that are commonly found. You have the single interlock system and a double interlock system. While they both accomplish the same goal, they have major differences.
A double interlock system is similar to a deluge system.
The main difference is that automatic fire sprinklers are used. The water for this system is instead held within a valve that is operated electronically. Instead of water, the sprinkler piping is filled with air or nitrogen. This makes some pre-action systems the system of choice for protecting freezing areas such as refrigeration installations. A pre - action system will prime the sprinkler pipework with a low air pressure to monitor the integrity of the system.
The operation of the sprinkler alarm valve will be controlled by a fire detection system eg. Heat detection, VESDA, infra-red. In the event of fire situation, should the heat rise and fracture one.
There are two main subtypes of pre - action sprinkler systems: single interlock fire sprinkler system , and double interlock fire sprinkler system. A specific sprinkler head detects heat or fire, that sprinkler head will open and the system will work to extinguish the fire in that immediate area. As more sprinkler heads become activate the systems coverage will expand. Pre - Action Systems for Water Sensitive Areas. MRI Rooms are new, and the use of Preaction Sprinkler Systems in MRI Rooms are perhaps newer.
Two years ago while preparing and researching how I was to go about meeting the needs of my customer who had to have the preaction dry sprinkler system in use with their MRI facilities,. We offer fire protection systems and services to customers throughout the United States. With multiple locations, VFP has the resources and experience to handle any project with the hands on approach our customers have come expect.
