What is seamless pipe

What is the difference between seamless and welded pipe? The hollow pipe is then extruded through a die and mandrel combination to reduce the outside diameter and to expand the inside diameter. Normally, the weakest part of pipes is the welding line, but seamless pipe doesn’t have a seam, so the entire circumference of the pipe can evenly withstand high pressure. Wrought steel tubular product made without a weld seam.

NOTE It is manufactured by hot-working steel, and if necessary, by subsequently cold-working or heat-treating, or a combination of these operations, to produce the desired shape, dimensions and properties.

Due to its unique feature of strength and anti-bending, seamless pipe is widely used in construction, oil refining and chemical industries. According to the definition of ERW pipes and seamless pipes above, it’s obvious that there are some differences between them. There are two basic types of pipe used. The seamless pipe is then finished to dimensional and wall thickness.

One is based on rolling flat plate into a cylinder and then welding the seam. The welds are typically by electric resistance welding or by submerged arc methods. The other choice is to use a solid.

Extruded pipe is seamless pipe.

Because welded pipe has a seam down its length where it is made by turning a flat section to a round section. Our pipes are threaded and undergo non-destructive testing before. Although there should be no issues with the seams of welded pipes supplied by reputable manufacturers, seamless pipes prevent any possibility of a weak seam. The welded steel pipe is formed by welding a steel plate rolled into a tubular shape by a seam or a spiral seam.

Small diameter and thin wall seamless pipe usually made in this way. In simple terms the seamless pipe is produced by piercing a solid round billet leaving behind a hollow seamless pipe. As we can see, there are big differences between seamless steel pipe and non- seamless steel pipe from many aspects: making progress, property and application. In a Seam or Welded pipe , the seam or the weld-joint is the weaker part of the pipe limiting the strength of the pipe to the strength of the weld-joint. The difference between seam and seamless pipe is in manufacturing process.

A seamless pipe is a pipe without a seam or a weld-joint. The hot-rolled steel pipe is made of continuous casting slab or slab slab as raw material, heated by step-type heating furnace, descaled by high-pressure water and then enters the rough rolling mill. The rough rolling material passes through the cutting head and tail, and then enters the finishing mill to implement computer control.

However, there is a Restriction on the manufacturing of large diameter pipe. It is manufactured by hot-working steel or, if necessary, by subsequently cold-finishing the hot-worked product to produce the desired shape, dimensions, and properties. The diameter of hot-rolled seamless steel pipe is usually above 38mm.

According to manufacuring process of seamless pipe , seamless pipe can be divided into hot rolled seamless tube and cold drawn seamless tube.

Manufacturing process difference: galvanized steel refer to a galvanized surface, there may be welded pipe , it could be seamless , seamless steel pipe manufacturing process means welded and seamless points.
